Werner Drewes

(1899-1985)

Werner Drewes was born in Canig, Germany in 1899. He was a muralist, painter, and printmaker. He studied and taught at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum School, Columbia University, German Academies, and the St. Louis School of Fine Art. He was a member of American Abstract Artists, Salons of America, Woodstock Art Association, and worked under the Federal Arts Projects. His artworks have been exhibited at Art Institute of Chicago, the Carnegie Institute, the Museum of Modern Art New York, the Pennsylvania Academy, Salons of America, the Smithsonian Institution, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and Woodstock New York Art Association. He died in Reston, Virginia in 1985.
