Julius M. Delbos

(1879-1970)

Julius M. Delbos was a painter, teacher, and lecturer who was born in London, England in 1879. He was a member of the American Watercolor Society; the New York Watercolor Club; the Society of Graphic Art; Old Dudley Art Society, London; American Artists Professional League; the National Arts Club; and the Century Club. Delbos had works in numerous exhibitions, including shows at the Corcoran Gallery in 1930 and 1937; the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in 1930 and 1936; the Art Institute of Chicago; the New York Watercolor Club in 1935 (where he won a prize); the National Arts Club; the Connecticut Academy of Fine Art; the Society of Independent Artists; the American Watercolor Society (again, winning prizes); and the Salons of America. Delbos has works in numerous private and public collections, including the Butler Art Institute; the Toledo Museum of Art; the Brooklyn Museum; Yale University Artists Guild; and the New York Public Library. He is listed in “Who Was Who in American Art”. He died in Dover, NJ in 1970.
