Lucien Day

(1916-2008)

Lucian Day was a painter born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1916. He graduated from Yale University in 1939, and studied painting at Cranbrook Academy in Michigan. He served in the US Army during World War II. As a young artist he exhibited regularly in both New York City and Vermont. In 1968 he founded the Green Mountain Gallery in Greenwich Village which later moved and became one of the first galleries in SoHo. Day’s works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Hudson River Museum; the Rogert Fleming Museum in Burlington, Vermont; the New Britain Museum of American Art at the Philips Memorial Gallery; and the Helen Day Art Center in Stowe, Vermont. He died in 2008.
