Frederick Knecht Detwiller
(1882-1953)
Frederick Detwiller was born in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1882. He studied at the Academy Colarossi, the Art Students League of New York, and Columbia University. He was a member of the Allied Artists of America, the American Artists Professional League, the American Federation of Arts, the American Watercolor Society, the Brooklyn Society of Artists, the National Academy of Design, the Salmagundi Club, Salons of America, and the Society of Independent Artists. His works were exhibited at the Allied Artists of America, the American Artists Professional League, the American Watercolor Society, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Society of Artists, the Carnegie Institute, the Lotos Club, the New York Metropolitan Museum, the Corcoran Gallery Biennial, the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy, the Salmagundi Club, Salons of America, the Society of Independent Artists, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He was well-known for his rural and urban scenes. He died in New York, New York in 1953.
