Maksimilians Mitrevics  

(b. 1901)

Maksimilians Mitrevics was born in 1901 in Latvia. In 1932 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Riga, Latvia, with honors for the master class of figural painting. He also studied art and philosophy at the University of Heidelberg, and was the Director of the art school in Liepaja. His paintings are in the collections of numerous Latvian Museums of Art, as well as many noted art collectors in Europe and the U.S. He participated in many international group exhibitions in Latvia, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, France and the U.S., including a show at the National Academy of Design in New York in 1950. Solo exhibitions in Europe were held in Heidelberg and Bad-Wimpfen, and U.S. shows were in Greenwich and Stamford, Connecticut. He was an active member of the Edward MacDowel Association, and lived in Chappaqua, New York later in his life.
