Jan Wunderman

Jan Wunderman was born in Winnipeg Canada in 1921. She studied at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles in 1938 where she was one of only two female students chosen for the class of twenty students. She was introduced to Cubism and Dadaism after a brief meeting with Man Ray and May Deren and became drawn to the possibilities of abstraction. In 1946 Wunderman left Los Angeles for New York and began attending classes at the Brooklyn Museum Art School with Robert Tam. Wunderman was a member of the American Society of Contemporary Artists and the National Association of Women Artists. Her work has been exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, the National Academy of Design, the National Association of Women Artists and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
