Helen Phillips  

(1913-1995)

Helen Phillips was born in Fresno, CA on March 3, 1913. She studied sculpture at the California School of Fine Arts under Stackpole and Piazzoni. A traveling scholarship from that school allowed her to study for one year in Europe. After returning to San Francisco in 1938, she executed fountain figures on Treasure Island for the Golden Gate International Exhibition. In 1940, she married famed printmaker Stanley Hayter. She move to NYC in 1941 and lived there until her death on Jan. 22, 1995.
