  Maxime Lalanne

(1827-1886)

Maxime Lalanne was a chronicler of the radical changes that took place in Paris under Napoleon III and Baron Haussmann during the Second Empire when the city's narrow streets gave way to the wide boulevards for which it is known today. In his art he noted not only the grandeur of the new, but the displacement and destruction of the old. Lalanne was also one of the premier teachers of etching during the etching revival of this period.
