Lester Nass

(1894-1990)

Lester Nass was born in Austria/Hungary in 1894. He moved to New York with his family as a young child and grew up in Manhattan and the Bronx. Nass was eccentric (socialist, vegetarian, and atheist . . . radical notions at the time) and can be seen posing in a sailor uniform in a photo from 1926, even though he never served in the armed forces. He was an artist all his life and in addition to New York, he lived and worked in the southwest, including Texas near the Mexican border. He died in El Paso in 1990 and is buried in Queens, NY.
